I was born and raised in South West, Washington DC, 10 minutes from the Capitol. I used to skateboard down Capitol Hill and had soccer practice on The Mall. I went away to college in Shepherdstown WV and then came back to the city. In 2005 my wife and I had our first child and we moved to Pittsburgh PA. Now I coach soccer instead of play and stay away from skateboards for fear of serious injury. I have always been interested in computers and art. Web design is a perfect combination of the technical and the creative.
I started at EmoryDay in January 2006 as employee number 2. Starting out, Joe and I, did everything. I was the sole designer, developer and together we did strategy execution and client relations. Over the years we have proven what works online and developed the Emoryday Method. We use this method to guide our work with all our clients and have grown to the team to over 20 people. Today I oversee our team of developers and designers and provide high level strategic and technical support to our clients.
I graduated in 1993 with Bachelors in Fine Art Photography and a Minor in Graphic Design. Right out of school I worked for a couple Associations, US Marine Corps Association and the Unite States Conference of Mayors. I then went to the ad agency side where I worked for RTC Wunderman working on clients like Claritin (Shering Plough) Fed Ex, and Aetna.
That’s when this internet thing was taking off and I jumped ship to work for a wireless tech startup (inPhonic) and, luckily, that is where I met Joe Jaap. I was employee 35 and left when they had 400 employees. I went back to another ad agency doing TV, print ads, and marketing for clients like Navy Federal Credit Union, Marriott and The Virginia Tourism Board. After that I moved to PIttsburgh, Joe and I reconnected, and we have been doing online marketing for hundreds of clients ever since.
