Using Twitter for Your Business

Twitter for Business

Twitter is one of the most successful social media platforms on the web with millions of users from all walks of life. And, while Twitter isn’t the best social media platform for lead generation, it is great for building and promoting your brand as well as engaging with current and potential customers.

How Twitter Can Benefit Your Business

Like we said above, Twitter isn’t designed for lead generation. But, when used correctly, Twitter can help your business reach millions of people because when your business’s Tweets are retweeted/shared, they can reach new people that might not be familiar with your brand.

Twitter is a great way to get your brand in front of new people. Also, when you use Twitter as part of a comprehensive social media marketing strategy, it can be incredibly useful for engaging with your current and even potential new customers. And when you’re engaging with your customers, you are actively encouraging brand loyalty, which will inevitably lead to quality lead generation.

Twitter for Businesses – How to Tweet

With a 140 character limit on tweets, it’s easy to assume Twitter would be the least time consuming of all of the different social networking platforms. But, using Twitter efficiently as a business requires an entirely different approach than just creating and sharing online content. Basically, it is not enough to just blast out tweets.

Luckily, we’ve come up with some great tips for using Twitter we think will help you leverage Twitter for your business.

Business Tweeting Best Practices

1. Be strategic when choosing an account name/Twitter handle.

Choose an account name that is the same as your business or as close to your business name as possible. This will help avoid confusion.

2. Spread the word.

Once your account is set up, create add callouts within your other marketing channels (e-mails, website, blog, ect.) asking viewers to follow and link to your Twitter profile. If you have followings on other social networks, make announcements to your followers with links to your Twitter profile. Twitter also has an invite email contacts feature, which you can find in your profile settings. This can be a great way to get an initial group of followers.

3. Tweet on a regular basis.

Who in your company will be in charge of the account? You need someone that is able to tweet on the behalf of your company on a regular basis, so you can maintain an active Twitter presence. Create a tweeting schedule if necessary. Or, if your marketing team doesn’t have time to manage your social media marketing efforts, consider outsourcing it to a digital marketing agency, like EmoryDay.

4. Be clever with your tweets.

Twitter’s strictly limited word count requirement means you have to be clever and succinct with your content. The key lies in knowing how to produce headlines with the potential to go ‘viral’ and how to create content that will be valuable to a lot of people.

And don’t forget to leverage the use of images and videos. Good images can pull attention to your content and help support your brand. This approach to using strong supporting images needs to extend to your profile picture and logo as well as posts.

5. Focus on engagement, not marketing.

The whole point of your Twitter account should be to build engagement with your clients, not to push the marketing of your products and services. Twitter is supposed to function as a conversation between users. You cannot only talk about your brand and expect others to be engaged. So, focus on building a quality following of real individuals and businesses who want to interact with you.

Start by following accounts that are related to your industry. This will give you a feed of valuable content that you can retweet to your own audience. By building relationships with other thought leaders in your industry, you are more likely to have them retweet your content, which will help build your audience by getting your brand in front of more people.

Another way to reach new users is to look for topics related to your industry by searching hashtags in the search bar at the top of your feed. See what your target audience is talking about and retweeting and use that information to gauge the content they are most interested in.

6. Share useful, relevant content.

Create and share content that is relevant to your business and interesting and useful to your followers, like how-to articles and demonstration videos.

7. Become a part of your industry’s Twitter universe.

Becoming a participant in your industry on Twitter is a great way for your company to become a trusted industry leader. You can accomplish this by:

  • Using hashtags and @mentions to connect and engage with influencers in your industry.
  • Retweeting relevant posts and updates of influencers that apply to your business or industry
  • Linking to industry-related blog posts as well as your own blog posts
