1. Businesses must leverage AI tools.

Love it or hate it, AI is here to stay. And, according to an article in Forbes, it’s going to become more prominent in digital marketing this year, especially when it comes to customer segmentation and content creation. Forbes suggests utilizing AI tools like chatbots, virtual assistants, Jasper, and ChatGPT. 

And, you will want to stay on top of any other “AI advancements in personalized user interactions that can interpret and respond to customer sentiment.” Doing so will help your business offer a more personalized experience for your current customers and potential new customers. 

2. Machine learning (ML) will enhance marketing automation.

Machine learning is a type (or branch) of AI. IBM defines it as “enabling computers and machines to imitate the way that humans learn, to perform tasks autonomously, and to improve their performance and accuracy through experience and exposure to more data.” 

While machine learning might sound a little scary, like something out of the Terminator movies, when it comes to digital marketing, it can be quite helpful for small businesses. 

According to Forbes, as AI marketing tools become more evolved and intuitive through machine learning, they allow marketing teams to “automate routine tasks like lead nurturing and email marketing and free up human teams for more strategic work.”

3. Businesses need to optimize content for voice search and voice commerce.

More and more consumers are using voice search to find the products and services they need. And, more and more consumers are actually utilizing voice commerce to make a lot of their purchases. This means your customers and leads will be using conversational language. So, it’s really important that businesses find ways to optimize their content for voice search. 

You can do this by thinking about how people ask questions. They do so conversationally, right?

For instance, when using voice search to find a dog groomer, a person probably wouldn’t say “dog groomers near me.” They would most likely say something like, “what are the best dog groomers in (insert town name)”? 

Using natural or conversational language and long-tail keywords in your website content, will help your business pop up when people voice search for the products and services you offer. Another thing you can do is use conversational ALT tags in all of your website images, PDFs, and infographics. 

4. Businesses need to hyper-personalize content. 

In 2025 and beyond, a one-size-fits-all content strategy just won’t work anymore. This is because as Forbes states “people want and expect content that feels tailored to their unique preferences and desires.” Consumers want a personal touch, and that means brands need to hyper-personalize content. 

And, we aren’t just talking about email campaigns. Consumers want dynamic content everywhere, including website content that adapts to their behavior and preferences. 

Thanks to AI tools, it’s easier than ever to hyper-personalize content through segmenting audiences based on advanced user behavior data analytics. Forbes suggests doing things like curating “email offers based on a customer’s browsing history” and displaying “product recommendations on your website based on a user’s previous visit.”

5. Content MUST be of the highest quality and have a human touch. 

In 2024, many businesses started using AI to craft their content. And, while this is an easy way to produce content quickly, AI doesn’t always craft the best content. It’s often mediocre at best.

According to Search Engine Land, in 2025, “Google will work harder on content quality issues going forward and will continue to refine its algorithms to improve the elimination of poor content.” 

This means that if you just rely on AI to produce your website content and blog posts, and they aren’t stellar and don’t read like they were written by an actual human, Google might dump them. 

Search Engine Land emphasizes that in 2025 all “content should be personalized based on the user journey.” So, in order to stay ahead of the pack in 2025, businesses need to find ways to “balance AI efficiency with human creativity to produce authentic, engaging content.”

Essentially, if you are using AI to generate your content, make sure a human is reviewing and tweaking everything so that it is high quality and sounds authentic. 

6. Businesses should find ways to implement AR and VR.

Nowadays, consumers want immersive experiences, so it’s important to find ways to implement augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). 

Big stores, like Target and Amazon have already done this by creating virtual try-ons for clothing items and a feature that lets you see furniture or other items in your own space. Another thing businesses can do is offer virtual product and services tours. 

7. Companies should focus on creating and posting short videos.

Forbes suggests that in 2025 consumer preferences will “shift toward snackable, engaging content” And, companies can use videos and platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels to post creative content customers and potential leads can engage with. 

Live-streaming will also become more and more popular this year, which is great for product and service launches as well as answering FAQs. Plus, live-streaming offers the chance for real-time engagement with leads and customers.
