User Experience Best Practices
User experience, also known as UX, is something that all companies should keep in mind when designing their websites. While it might not seem like it directly relates to digital marketing, it actually does!
If your website isn’t easy to navigate or aesthetically pleasing, you could potentially lose customers. If your website visitors have a good experience with your site, they are more likely to give you their business.
User Experience
According to Usability.gov, user experience, also known as UX, “focuses on having a deep understanding of users.” They further explain that in order to have this deep understanding, you must determine:
- What your website users need
- The things your website users value
- Your website users’ abilities
- Your website users’ limitations
HubSpot defines UX as the focus on “the end user’s overall experience, including their perceptions, emotions, and responses to a company’s product, system, or service.”
The HubSpot experts go on to say that essentially, UX is defined by:
- Ease of use
- Accessibility
- Convenience
What Companies Need to Know about UX
When it comes to implementing UX, you will want to make sure that you take a few things into account:
- How can you improve the quality of your website user’s interactions?
- How do your website users ultimately feel about your products and services?
- Do they find value in what your business is offering?
UX Best Practices
And, once you get the answers to those questions, you can use the following user experience best practices to give your website users a great experience:
1. User Research
Conduct user research to determine user behaviors, user needs, and user motivations.
2. Visual Design
Take that user research into account when it comes to the visual design of your site so it’s not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also properly represents your brand and marketing goals. You also need to make sure your website is user friendly.
3. Content Strategy
Your content strategy should focus on creating engaging and useful content for your website visitors.
4. Information Architecture (IA)
Having engaging and useful content on your website is great, but you also have to keep information architecture (IA) in mind when putting it on your site. Content needs to be organized, structured, and labeled so your users can find the information they need when they need it.
5. Accessibility
A big piece of UX is making sure that everyone can use your website, including those with disabilities. Visit Section508.gov to learn more about accessibility.
