Marketing 101: Seasonal Marketing

Seasonal Marketing

Seasonal marketing is one of the many different types of marketing. It consists of leveraging certain times of the year, holidays, or national days to market products and services. So, with the holidays coming up, we thought we’d dedicate this post to seasonal marketing.

What is Seasonal Marketing?

Like we said a few sentences ago, seasonal marketing is using certain times of the year, like important events or holidays, to market your products and services. There are three different types of seasonal holidays/events you can leverage to boost your marketing efforts.

1. Official/Global Holidays

We’re talking about the major holidays, like Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July. You can also zero in on some of the minor holidays, like Labor Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, President’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween.

2. Annual Events/Special Days

In addition to major and minor holidays, there are alot of other annual events and special days you can take advantage of, like: Black Friday, back-to-school time, spring break, summer vacation, April Fools Day, Earth Day, and Cyber Monday. For example, if you own a cleaning company, you can create some kind of campaign highlighting your eco-friendly products for Earth Day.

3. National Days

Those fun national days you probably see your friends posting about on Facebook are great things to tie into your marketing messaging. For instance, if you own a brewery, you could create some kind of marketing campaign around Beer Can Appreciation Day, which is on January 24th. Perhaps you can even have your content writer create a blog post on the benefits of packaging beer in cans versus bottles. Or, if you own a bookstore, you can offer discounts for National Science Fiction Day on January 2nd.

You can find a list of fun national holidays here.

Will Seasonal Marketing Work for Your Business?

Seasonal marketing is great for B2C companies. Think about how many companies offer specials or discounts for Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

But, just because seasonal marketing is a great B2C marketing tactic, that doesn’t mean that B2B companies can’t find a way to incorporate seasonal marketing into their marketing plans. You just might have to get a little creative to pull it off. And, that’s where we come in!
